Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Thad Scudder today to the Cowlitz County Superior Court. He replaces Judge Stephen Warning, who is retiring from the court this coming August.
Since 2013, Scudder has worked for the Cowlitz County Office of Public Defense, and he has served as the agency’s director since April 2018. Before joining the Office of Public Defense, for 20 years Scudder operated a solo legal practice in Longview and in Kelso, focusing primarily on criminal defense, but also taking family law cases and other matters.
Scudder is a longtime resident of Cowlitz County. He has long been involved in youth athletics and he’s also a member of the Cowlitz County Homelessness Task Force.
“Thad has been a fixture in the Cowlitz County legal community, earning the respect of those with whom he’s worked,” Inslee said. “He manages one of the largest law firms in the county, and that leadership and experience will translate well to the bench.”
Scudder earned his law degree from the University of Puget Sound School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota.
