Story Body

OLYMPIA – Gov. Jay Inslee today announced that he is appointing Mary Sue Wilson to Thurston County Superior Court. Wilson is replacing Judge Lisa Sutton who was appointed in July to the Washington State Court of Appeals.

Wilson has served as a Senior Assistant Attorney General since 1990 as the lead AG for the State of Washington on a range of complex issues including Hanford and other toxic cleanup cases.

“I’ve seen first-hand how Mary Sue has earned her reputation for navigating difficult legal issues with the highest degree of professionalism and thoughtful deliberation,” Inslee said. “I know she’ll bring that same degree of competence to the bench and in service to all the people of Thurston County.”

“Since 1990, Mary Sue Wilson has been an invaluable part of the team here at the Attorney General’s Office,” said Attorney General Bob Ferguson. “During that time she has served as a tireless defender of the environment, from Hanford and water resources to air quality and cleanup of contaminated properties. I am sorry to see her go, but wish her the best of luck in the new role of Thurston County Superior Court Judge.”

Wilson graduated from Gonzaga’s University School of Law in Spokane and completed the Executive Management Program at the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Affairs. She currently lives in Olympia where she serves on the board of a local church and Parent-Teacher Service Association.

Wilson’s term begins in October.
